Five Blessings for 2022

Pastor Eric Gilbert

One of the things that's, that's really on my heart in recent months, especially since all this pandemic stuff started is just the importance of living a meaningful life. And I know that you're like me. You want to be a part of things that are meaningful. I think most of us are done wasting our time. Can I get a witness somewhere? And so when it comes to God and others, we want to be a part of something meaningful. And so we're talking a little bit about what it means to lead a meaningful life. And today I'd like to share with you five blessings that I believe that we can believe God for in 2022, I have a mentoring voice in my life. I respect him greatly. He has planted over 26,000 churches. Uh, some of the largest churches in America, their pastors looked to him as a spiritual fathering type voice to lead guide and direct and provide discipleship.

Pastor Eric Gilbert

And a few years ago, I was able to develop a, a relationship with him. And, um, he sent this out to, um, several people that he impacts and has been a part of their discipleship process. And it was from Psalm chapter one 12. And it was this, uh, in instruction of just, just believe God for these blessings. And the more I meditated on it, the more I prayed through it. Um, I even saw just a few things, even from my own perspective that I felt like the holy spirit was trying to show to me. And so I'd like to share it with you this morning, Psalm chapter one 12, verse, number one, it says this praise the Lord, how joyful are those who fear the Lord and delight in obeying his commands? Their children will be successful everywhere. An entire generation of godly people will be blessed.

Pastor Eric Gilbert

They themselves will be wealthy and their good deeds will last forever. Light shines in the darkness for the godly. They are generous. They are compassionate. They are righteous. Good comes to those who lend money, generously and conduct their business. Fairly such. People will not be overcome by evil. Those who are righteous will be long remembered. They not fear bad news. They confidently trust the Lord to care for them. And they are confident and they are fearless and they can face their fo try confidently. They share freely and they give generously to those in need. Their good deeds will be remembered forever. They will have influence and honor, the wicked will see this be infuriated. They will grind their teeth in anger. They will slink away their hopes forwarded on the concept and the subject of a meaningful life. I believe within this passage of text, we can see a summary of a meaningful life, and it is directly connected to at least five blessing that are within this text.

Pastor Eric Gilbert

Let's talk about it this morning. Father help me to preach, help me to teach, help me God to share your word in a way that is anointed and rich and real. And God let it be done. According to your purpose for this church, this community, and everybody under the sound of my voice in Jesus name. This church said, amen, man, you, you gotta love kids. Um, children are quite entertaining to say the least. I heard the story from one school teacher. Um, she said that the children were lined up in the cafeteria of a Christian school. And at the head of the table was a large pile of apples. And the teacher made a note take. Only one God is watching at the other end of the table was a large pile of chocolate chip cookies for which a little boy made a note take as many as you want, God's watching the app apples.

Pastor Eric Gilbert

You gotta, you gotta love, you gotta love kids, but I've found in trying to raise even just two of them, um, that, that kids are often a lot like flowers and Aase, there's always one face in the wrong direction. You ever watched a, someone at the Flos try to work with the vase and as they're maneuver, maneuvering the flowers and, and it's, it's like they get that one. That's just perfect. And then this other, one's just perfect. And then this, and there's always one that keeps wanting to rotate, keeps wanting to turn the wrong direction. And you probably experience that and trying to take family pictures. If you've got very many people at all in your family, it seems like there's always one facing the wrong direction, making the wrong face, got the wrong expression. Uh, somebody's eyes are close. Somebody's eyes are open. It's really no different with kids.

Pastor Eric Gilbert

And, and, and I, when we think about trying to raise kids and, and we think about the challenge that is associated with it, it really brings us to the reality that if you're gonna do it well, you're gonna need some kind of a blueprint because no one on any job site of significance just brings all the materials for construction and throws 'em down, and then just lets people do whatever they want to do with this two, four. And that two, four, and this set of trusses and that piece of sheet rock. There's a process that unfolds. And that process is directly connected to a blueprint. Somebody has to get a vision for how all of those products are gonna be put together. And it's really the same for your children because the Bible gives us an incredible promise. It says, raise your kids in the way that they shall go.

Pastor Eric Gilbert

And in the end, they shall not depart from it. Is that not an incredible promise? Raise your kids in the way that they shall go. And in the end they will not depart from it. My question for you is that when it comes to of your kids specifically, how do you know which way they shall go? Now, ultimately we have the general understanding of scripture, but when it comes to the more specific elements for your kids, I think it is important to pray and to ask God, to give you dreams and to give you vision and to give you clarity for who it is that is in your house that you have been assigned to raise so that you can be a part of helping put them on the right path and put them in the right place at the right time with the right people in the right plan.

Pastor Eric Gilbert

I remember, uh, when I, my father was raising me, there was a lot of tension in the home at times. And the reason for that is because he understood my calling before I did. He had a revelation of who I was supposed to be for God before I did. And so I think sometimes when we are parenting kids, it becomes really important to get that blueprint, to get that vision and to really have a strategy that's downloaded from God that we can help to raise our kids in the way that they shall go. Now, some of you under the sound of my voice, you're thinking right now, well, I, I don't have kids yet. Well then, then this is a great thought for you to be considering for the time when you do have kids, others of you are thinking, well, my kids are already gone.

Pastor Eric Gilbert

Maybe there's gonna be grandkids or special children that come into your life that you're gonna have influence with. And you're gonna be able to impact, or maybe this is even something that you can believe for your present adult children. Because what I want you to see is this passage of text it's Psalm chapter one 12, verse two, it says their children will be successful. Every, I want you to say that out loud with me ready begin. Their children will be successful everywhere. That is Bible. It is scripture. It comes directly from the Psalm. Their children will be successful everywhere. What it teaches us is that their is a blessing that is available for your children. And what we wanna believe for this morning is a blessing on our children. As we go into 2022, that they are going to be successful everywhere that they are going to be raised and trained in the way in which that they shall go.

Pastor Eric Gilbert

And that it won't matter what weapon forms is formed. Again, system, it's not gonna prosper because they are going to be successful everywhere. Not just because you are a great parent, but because you have introduced them to a great God and he will put a hedge of protection round about them and he will be the author and he will be the finisher and your children will be like Joseph of old. They will stick out in a crowd. And even if it thrown into a pit or they get put into a prison, there will be a favor of God upon their life. That the enemy will not even be able to understand. And people will give them things and do things for them and advance them and not even understand why they are doing. And other than the fact that the favor of God is upon your children, I would shall.

Pastor Eric Gilbert

And you every day of your life, lay your hands on your children and pray the blessing of God over them, pray that they will play blessed in the city, pray that they would be blessed in the field, pray that they will be blessed coming and going. That they will be the head and not the tail. And that every enemy that raises his hand against him will be spitting by the Lord. Your God, I don't know who I'm trying to help this morning, but I came to tell somebody, bless your kids, bless your kids. One of my, one of my really good friends, he has eight children. I'm gonna try to get him in soon to, to speak to you guys, hopefully in 2022, he'll come in and tell you how to really parent. So you got eight kids. You're at a whole nother level. And he, he tells me that for father's day, he buys all of his dads a special gift. He gives them all a laser pointer because when you start trying to get kids, help you to clean up the house they're blind.

Pastor Eric Gilbert

So it's the greatest hack on parenting is just a laser pointer in point they're. It is now put it over there and there it is. That's good parenting, but the best thing I've ever heard him say about parenting is that in raising these eight kids, sometimes there's a fight that breaks out in the house. And this kid gets mad at that kid and that kid's kid and kids mad at this kid. And then they're just all just, I ever kinda had a moment kinda like that. Maybe it broke out in your back backseat on the way to church this morning. And so one of the kids will call the other, you're an idiot or you're so stupid. You're so dumb. And he said, anytime that they hear that in their house, they bring everything to a stop and they bring those kids together and they say, you will not speak a demonic, prophecy over your brother or your sister.

Pastor Eric Gilbert

They are not stupid. They are not dumb. And they are not an idiot. Now you are gonna speak the word of God over their life, in the place of every negative thing you just said, speak life over them. Tell them who they're gonna be. Tell 'em what you see 'em becoming when they're grown, tell 'em about the career, that they it's a great concept, a blessing on our children. And I think it's something that we should believe for not just in 20, 22, but every day of our life. And if you don't have kids yet, I would challenge you. Just start even right now, speak the blessings over the kids that are yet to come in your life. But here's the thing. If you're gonna have kids, and if your kids are gonna be blessed, maybe this statement rings true with you. Parents no longer bring children up.

Pastor Eric Gilbert

They finance them. <laugh> Psalm. I don't, I don't know, uh, Psalm chapter one, 12, verse three, they themselves will be wealthy. Psalm chapter one 12. They themselves will be wealthy. So we, we now see a second part of the blessing. That's in this chapter that there's this promise that their, their children will be blessed everywhere, but there's also this promise that they themselves will be wealthy. And I don't think that there's anything wrong for believe in God for a blessing on your finances. And there's a lot of that are struggling financially. I heard one guy say, he said, I never worry about money. I have enough to last me. The rest is rest of my life.

Pastor Eric Gilbert

As long as I don't buy anything. There's one thing you need to know about finances though. And it's this, the man who had as God for his treasure has all things in one. I'm gonna say that again. The man who has God for his treasure has all things in one. Aw, Tozer said that maybe one of the greatest Christian communicators to ever live. And so when you come to understand that our God does not know our God owns the cattle on a thousand heel, our God made everything that we see and everything that was in front of us, by simply speaking it into existence, our God knows no lack. And you are made in his image. And I believe that when you begin to come to the revelation, you can believe God for blessing. One of the things that this passage said, if you caught it, when we were reading through it is that they, that they would be blessed in such a way that they would be able to be lenders rather than borrowers God's vision for you is not that you are, are, are always pressed down and overwhelmed by everything that around you, but rather that you would reach a place where you're doing something more than just clearing the treetops.

Pastor Eric Gilbert

Why? Because God wants you to be blessed so that you can be a blessing. And one of the reasons that a lot of people never get blessed financially is because they only want more so that they can be excited about having more. And they get, they think that there's gonna be some level of contentment. If they get the bigger house or they get the nicer car or they take the nicer vacation. And the truth of it is, is that contentment will never reside in things. There is only one way to experience contentment. And it is to realize that your God has all that you need and all of your needs shall be supplied according his riches in glory. And that if he's going to bless you financially, then you realize it's so that I can be a blessing. When I was talking to somebody this week, an extremely successful person, they live in a whole other state.

Pastor Eric Gilbert

They don't go to our church and they were just talking to me about how the more that God has blessed them, it seems like sometimes they've been less likely to be generous. And we were just talking through that and I said, listen, here would be my encouragement to you. You need to make sure that there are three types of generosity in your life at all times. The first thing you need to know is you need to be a tither. That means the first 10% of your income, you take it and you give it to God. It is not a suggestion. It is a scriptural command, and it's not the last 10%. It's the first 10% doesn't count. Unless it's the first 10%, the first 10th you take it. It's the first thing you do. You're like, God, I, you, one 10th of everything I have.

Pastor Eric Gilbert

The second thing Malachi three says is that you don't just give the tithe, but you give the offering. So it means in one hand, I bring a 10th of my income. And the other other hand, I bring something I've purposed in my heart, something God's spoken to me about something I get to respond cheerfully with of something just, I'm just gonna be a blessing. But on the other, out of that, there are the arms and that's where you give to the poor. And that's what Jesus said in Matthew chapter six, he said, your left hand shouldn't know what your right hand is doing. When it comes to helping the poor, you're not gonna broadcast it. You're not gonna put it on Facebook. You're not gonna tell anybody about it. You're just gonna help somebody who's in need. And I said, if you will take those three steps of generosity, your tithe, your, and, and helping the poor.

Pastor Eric Gilbert

And you will weave that together. You will have a threefold cord that will not easily be broken. And the enemy will never be able to attack your house in a victorious way. Financially, you will just live a blessed life. And I think a lot of us, we never find meaning with our finances because we never come to the revelation of how to, to live from a blessed point of view, from a blessed place. A third thing that I see in Psalm one 12 is that there's a blessing on your relationships. And I'll say this to you as well. It's highly unlikely that you will ever experience yourself being blessed financially, unless God is also blessing you relationally. So many times when you go to the next level financially, it's because God gives you a new relationship in your life. In fact, John Maxwell said this. He said, according to the Stanford research Institute, the money made in any endeavor is determined.

Pastor Eric Gilbert

Only 12 point 0.5% by knowledge and 87.5%. By your ability to deal with people, your ability to deal with people, a blessing upon your relationships. Psalm one 12, verse four said it this way. And the, and they are generous. They are compassionate and they are righteous. So in your relationships, you live generously. And in your relationships, you lived compassionately. You actually care about somebody other than yourself, and you live righteously that you're not trying to steal. You're not trying to cheat. You're not trying to undercut somebody. You're not backstabbing. You're not gossiping you're in right. Standing in those relationships. And God said, he wants to put that kind of a blessing up on your life. You know, there's a man named Armen hammer. You may have heard bits and pieces about him. He, he was a CEO and by all estimations, he was a guy who you might have said was blessed, especially from a financial state endpoint, but after he died, the truth came out about his life.

Pastor Eric Gilbert

Because even if he had experienced some kind of blessing financially, he had not experienced a blessing relationally. In fact, most of what he had gotten, it seems had not come through the pure way that God likes to bring it through new relationships, but rather by taking advantage of people and deceiving people, which is an impure way, here's some things about his life. This came out after, after he passed away, turned out that he had been laundering money from the Soviets. He had paid authors to write fictitious autobiographies about his life, to impress other people. Even before he graduated medical school, he had illegally performed an abortion and almost killed a woman. His father took the blame for it and spent two years in prison. He never once spoke up and admitted that he's the one that did it neglected his own son, never acknowledged the daughter that he conceived out of wedlock.

Pastor Eric Gilbert

He had no friends in his company and was known for freely firing his executives. When his brother died, he sued his brother's estate for $667,000 of the $700,000 estate. He kept the money from his brother, children and his brother's wife, who was actually in a nursing home and desperate for care. When he died, his own son did not attend a funeral. And the people who carried his casket were those who were paid to take care of him in his own home. I don't know about you, but I don't wanna live that kinda life. It doesn't sound like a meaningful life. And so when we're believing God to bless our children and we're believing God to bless our finances, one of the things we also gotta believe God to do is to bless our relationships. And one of the ways that God blesses our relationships is by making us a generous person, a compassionate person, and somebody who's gonna be in right.

Pastor Eric Gilbert

Standing in their relationships. And it might be that your marriage is not as blessed as it needs to be because you've not been living generously. You've not been living compassionately and you've not been in right standing. Maybe you need to do some self-reflection. So God can take the whole thing to the next level. Can I just get a little bit of a witness from somebody who's ever been there? Listen, we've been there. There's moments. It's where you're saying, God, I realize the reason I'm not being blessed is because I'm not allowing the light to shine into my darkness. And that's one of the things that Psalm one 12 says that actually says that the light will shine in the darkness for the godly people. You know, what I found is that our most troubling darkness is often our emotions. I mean, some of us, if you could look inside of us, we are dark people.

Pastor Eric Gilbert

We got dark thoughts. We get dark opinions. We got some dark emotions that we're struggling with and we're wrestling with it. God says he wants to light that up. And I would say this to you, that he wants to be, to put a blessing up on your emotions, blessing up on your emotions. Let me explain that to you. Psalm one 12, verse eight says this. They are confident and they are fearless. Could we just say that together? Ready? Begin. They are confident and fearless. Come on, say it again. They are confident and fearless church online. I need you to say it right now. They are confident and fearless. I don't know, uh, if you've noticed or not, but there's not a lot of fearlessness in the world today. Instead, there seems to be a lot of fear, but in the context of this passage, one of the things that scripture says is they do not fear bad news. They confidently trust the Lord to care for them and they can face their fo triumphantly. So in the context of God saying that he wants to put a blessing upon you in your emotions, to where you live with a greater level of con, and you're not afraid of everything that's coming around the corner. He puts it in this context. They do not fear bad news. You ever just read the news lately. And it just kind of brings a little shutter down your spine.

Pastor Eric Gilbert

I ain't gonna get no help this morning, Emma, because there's something that's going on in our world where that the enemy is trying to maximize fearfulness and people's emotions are all over the place. Like just a daily scan of the news shows that people are a wreck. Emotionally, people are up and they're down and they're exploding on each other. And this person has just had some fit of rage. And now it's went viral. And now there's this other person trying to get off the plane. They just had a fit of rage and it's went viral. And now these people over here are, are doing crazy things in regards to fits of rage. That stuff is coming from people being a mess emotionally. And that is not how God intended for you to live. He wants to put a blessing up on your emotions, to where that you can stand next to the gates of hell itself and decree hell shall not prevail against me.

Pastor Eric Gilbert

I am confident and I am fearless, not because of my might or my power, but by the spirit of God, that is available in the name of Jesus. So believe God to bless your kids and believe God, to bless your finances and believe God to bless your relationships, but also believe God to bless your emotion as to where that he brings a level of stability to you. Every other fear outside of the fear of falling and the fear of loud noise is learned. And the enemy is teaching us a whole lot about fear lately, fear, but God wants to bless you emotionally. A lot of us, even our relationships would go to the next level. If we would let God bless us emotionally, I wanna show you another blessing. That's in Psalm chapter one 12. I believe God wants to put a blessing up on your influence.

Pastor Eric Gilbert

Psalm one 12 verse nine says this. They will have influence and honor, they will have of influence and honor. One of the things that you see in the book of acts about the early church is it actually makes this statement about them. It says they that have turned the world upside down, have come here. Also they that have turned the world upside down, have come here. Also, I find myself quite often praying for God here. Also south central Kentucky, also Russell Springs, Columbia Campbellsville, also Kentucky, also the United States of America. Also, they that have turned the world upside down, have come here. Also, do you understand that a drip can start a flood and you may not feel like that you've got a lot of influence, but when you start inviting God to bless your influence, you might be surprised the way in which that God uses you to be a part of bringing his purpose to pass.

Pastor Eric Gilbert

And the earth, you may have more influence in your cul-de-sac than you realize. And you may have more influence in your place of work than you realize. You may have more influence in your small group and the relationships and the networks that you have. And then you realize, especially if you would just start to say, God, I want you to bless my influence. Not just so you can impact somebody through what they wear or what they do. And you can call yourself a social media influencer. But I'm talking about the people who bring real change to the world and they are shifting in the, they are moving and they are shaking things according to the UNC that God has put in their life, a blessing up on their influence.

Pastor Eric Gilbert

But when you read all of this, we're gonna go back to it right now, Psalm one 12. So there's a blessing upon our children. There's a blessing upon our finances. There's a blessing on our relation. There's a blessing up on our emotions and there's a blessing available up on our influence. But when you read it in context, there's something that sticks out. I wanna read the whole thing again, will y'all allow me that opportunity. Come on. Will you stick with me? Come on church. Online, lean in for just a minute. Psalm chapter one 12, verse one, praise the Lord. How joyful are those that fear the Lord and delight in obey his commands. Watch this. Their children will be successful everywhere. Somebody say amen, amen. And an entire generation of godly people will be blessed. They with themselves will be wealthy. Somebody say amen. And their good deeds will, will last forever.

Pastor Eric Gilbert

Light shines in the darkness for the godly. They are generous. They are compassionate. They are righteous. That good comes to those who lend money, generously and conduct their business. Fairly such. People will never be, will not be overcome by evil. Those who are righteous will be long remembered. That should be highlight. They do not fear bad news. They confidently trust the Lord to care for them. They are confident and fearless and they can face their fo tri confidently. They share freely. They give generously to those in need and their good deeds will be remembered forever. Do you notice what's happening over and over again in Psalm one 12, it's talking about blessing and entire generation. It's talking about blessings that last beyond a lifetime. It's talking about blessings that literally stick out to people when you're is mentioned to them. They remember the fact that you were somebody that didn't blend in.

Pastor Eric Gilbert

You were a different kind of person. You weren't just a casual Christian. You know what it's talking about? It's talking about living a meaningful life because you are somebody that decided to leave a legacy. And that is what the equivalent of a legacy is. It is, is a meaningful life. And the only way that you can leave a legacy is if you live a meaningful life. And the only way that you can have a meaningful life is if you are living to leave a legacy. And there are so many people that they're just living for today, and they got no thought about tomorrow. And they're just going through the motions of this, the out in the other. And they're missing out on the opportunity to do something meaningful because they never think, Hey, I need God to bless my kids because my kids are gonna impact an entire generation of my family tree. Hey, I need God to bless my finances. Not just so I can brag about how much money I got in my 401k, but so that I can be a blessing.

Pastor Eric Gilbert

Hey, I need God to bless my relationships. Not just so I can talk about, I know this person and I got that fellow's contact, but so that we can step into a place of true influence. And that once we get that influence, we are people who are emotionally stable and we're not just up one day and down the next and acting like a bunch of spiritually bipolar people, but we get stabilized. And what we say has an impact, and it has an effect because we are not operating out of the emotions of man. We have the spirit of God that is settled down into our soul. And we begin to think like the word we begin to talk like the word. And we begin to act out the word in our life. And we start to live a meaningful life that is associated with the legacy.

Pastor Eric Gilbert

And I wonder like, when's the last time you gave some thought to your legacy. When's the last time that you gave some thought to a meaningful life and I'm gonna, I'm gonna warn you. If there's something being activated in you today, you need to straight up hear this last verse because God put a disclaimer on this whole thing. He made it clear. He said, when you find somebody that has children that are blessed everywhere and they got the favor of God all over 'em and people don't even know how to explain it. When you find somebody that's blessed financially coming and going. When you find somebody that's blessed in their relationships, blessed in their emotions and blessed with their influence, God put a disclaimer on it. He said, you need to understand this verse. Number 10, the wicked will see this and be infuriated.

Pastor Eric Gilbert

They will grind their teeth in anger and they will slink away their hopes. Ultimately thwarted, the wicked will hate you. They will hate you cause they ain't you. So I'll just warn you. If you're gonna invite the blessing, you can anticipate some hate. If you've ever seen God put blessing on your kids, that people can't explain. You know what it is for the enemy to be inf and the enemy will come in and try to curse what God's blessing. And he'll have no answer because there's a hedge of protection around that blessing. If you've ever seen somebody get blessed financially, especially in a small town, people make all kinds ofcstuff up, all kinds of lies, all kinds of nonsense. They'll come up with all kinds of things to explain what they can't understand. The enemy will be infuriated. And I'm gonna tell you when God blesses your relationships, the enemy will go around behind you.

Pastor Eric Gilbert

And he'll try to assassinate your character. He'll be infuriated that you just got into that network. He will despise the fact that you've been given a seat at the table that he used to own when God blesses your emotions. Oh the enemy. He's not gonna like that. No, no, no. There's bad news coming your way. He's gonna do everything he can to put bad news in front of you here, there and everywhere because he's infuriated by it. But what he did cannot get through his thick demonic head is that you are blessed by God in your emotions. And that changes some things and your influence.

Pastor Eric Gilbert

Sometimes it's anonymous and people don't even understand that you were the one that move the meter because you didn't ask God for the influence. So you could be a big deal in the eyes of man. You asked God for the influence. So you could bring the kingdom of heaven into earth. And it's not about anybody. Even knowing that you were the one who had the influence and that will infuriate the enemy that you didn't make it about. You, you made it about Jesus, all about Jesus and always about Jesus. Who am I trying to help this morning? If you'll receive this word, would you just give God praise? Come on, bless God for his blessing. Bless God for his blessing. Look at.
